DREAMING A GARDEN 1998-2010 | 20 Images
During different seasons, I explored a three-acre organic garden in Sonoma County, California. I chose to photograph at dawn. At this time of day I looked into shadows of the unlit land to see plant growth begin when sunlight touched leaves. I used infrared film which records plant activity. Since this film is grainy and somewhat imprecise, the resulting images can appear as impressions rather than fixed and detailed certainties. At dawn I felt I was a witness to the timeless and awesome phonomenum of growth. The plants seemed like mysterious fellow-beings, each with its own history.
